About
Us
Creekside High School opened in 1990, due to the closing and consolidation of
two community schools, former Campbell (1920-1990) and Palmetto (1970-1990) High
Schools. The consolidation also brought about the introduction of a middle school
concept, establishing Bear Creek Middle School on an adjoining campus. Creekside
was built to house grades nine through twelve and Bear Creek, grades six through
eight. Additions to the academic building and gymnasium include a Career Technology
facility housing a Horticulture and Information Technology program, a spacious
auditorium and theatre, and a sport stadium and fields including tennis courts
and a ropes course. Creekside was classified as a Majority to Minority (M-M) School
until the 1996-1997 school year. This change in classification occurred for two
reasons: changing demographics of the school's attendance zone and redrawing of
attendance zones that shifted students from Banneker High School in College Park
to Creekside.
Creekside's
program allows students to graduate either with college preparation,
career technology preparation, or a dual diploma, offering preparation
for a two-year associates degree in a technical school and \or a
four year college degree. Horticulture and Information Technology
are offered through Career Technology. Students can also participate
in an apprenticeship program offered countywide with the idea that
students will need to have marketable job skills. This program places
students on jobs in their field of interest while they are still
in high school.
Our
JROTC program strengthens leadership skills and character development
among our students. Additional special programs for students at
Creekside include 9th Grade Academy and Services for Exceptional
Children (SEC) classes at all grade levels including; Community-Based
Instruction (CBI), Inclusion and Self-Contained. Other programs
for students include Criminal Justice and the Aviation Academytaught
by Tuskegee Airman, Ronald Hutchison.
