CLUBS :: SANKOFA

Creekside High School's Sankofa Africana Studies Club began during the 2007 - 2008 school year. "Sankofa" is an Akan word, meaning "We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today."

The mission of the Creekside High School Sankofa Africana Studies Club is to enlighten, challenge, and empower students to develop awareness in critical thinking to become world citizens and global leaders.

The club follows a series of guiding principles, as follows:

Education is the doorway to the world.
Know thyself.
Respect (Love) thyself and others.
Take responsibility for ones’ actions.
Think with an Africana-centered worldview.
Stand for truth and righteousness.
Seek Freedom.
Wealth is not what a man has but what he is.
Be conscience of your appearance.
Be compassionate for those less fortunate.

The club meets most Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:30.
